Simulation Studies of Ionization Cooling
نویسنده
چکیده
A μ-μ collider must compress the beam phase-space volume by a factor of ~10 to obtain high luminosity, and this beam cooling must occur before μ-decay. In this paper we present simulations of ionization cooling which explore the various conditions needed for cooling to collider conditions. Cooling by large factors is demonstrated and directions toward complete cooling scenarios are discussed.

Simulation of the Ionization Cooling of Muons in Linear RF Systems*
Ionization cooling of muon beams is a crucial component of the proposed muon collider and neutrino factory. Current studies of cooling channels predominantly use simulations which track single particles, an often time consuming procedure. These simulation efforts are discussed and compared with analytic studies using equations for the beam moments in a linear channel. These dynamic equations, w...

A muon collider [1] may be the optimal way to study high-energy lepton-antilepton collisions, and a neutrino factory [2] based on a muon storage ring may be the ideal tool for the study of neutrino oscillation and the search for leptonic CP violation. Ionization cooling [3, 4], while not yet experimentally demonstrated, is essential for highluminosity muon colliders and has been shown by simula...
متن کاملMolecular dynamics simulation of sympathetic crystallization of molecular ions
It is shown that the translational degrees of freedom of a large variety of molecules, from light diatomic to heavy organic ones, can be cooled sympathetically and brought to rest ~crystallized! in a linear Paul trap. The method relies on endowing the molecules with an appropriate positive charge, storage in a linear radio frequency trap, and sympathetic cooling. Two well-known atomic coolant s...
متن کاملGeant4 Simulation and Theoretical Studies of a Helical Cooling Channel
We present a conceptual design and detailed GEANT4 simulation of a helical ionization cooling channel proposed by Ya. Derbenev, which is able to cool in 3 dimensions (3D). The lattice of the channel consists of a long solenoid (B=5 T, L=72 m, R=70 cm) and a transverse dipole magnetic field which rotates with a period of 1.8 m and an amplitude of 0.3 T. The cooling is achieved using lithium hydr...

We present a summary of simulation results for a muon cooling experiment. Two possible scenarios have been studied: The first is a subsection of the 88 MHz cooling channel in the CERN reference scheme for a neutrino factory. The second system studied is based on 200 MHz cavities as proposed in the US study II design. The studies comprise a scan of input beam parameters, various optics with and ...
